Today we had clear skies - a high of 6 Degree Celsius. Unfortunately, we also had some light South-East winds on the field that made thermal flying quite challenging. We had six flyers show up for a very beautiful and sunny day. Allan suffered couple of unfortunate incidents with his "Spirit Class" sailplanes; however, I'm sure CA/epoxy will bring him back for some more - don't give up Allan! Dave flew the Omega, Matt flew the Agea, Martin flew the Xtreme, Igor flew couple of electric planes and Adam flew his "aerial photography" plane for its maiden voyage. The plane is not what one would call a "looker"; however, Adam did promise some aerial photographs of the flying field - I'm still waiting ;-)

This morning the overcast skies did not give too much hope for a promising day to thermal at the CRCSS field. However, at about noon the light cloud coverage went away and the sun came out. The result was that the day proved to be far more better than the club members anticipated. We had a total of seven flyers show up at the field and I'm sure that everyone enjoyed the day. Warren had clocked over an hour with just two flights/launches - not bad at all. Adam, Martin and Ryan all had descent flight times with their gliders. Unfortunately, one of the club members had a misfortune (something that CA/epoxy will not fix); however, I'm sure he'll bounce back - sorry Dave! ;-)

Today the weather was Sunny and -1 Celsius. The wind was very light, therefore, few club members decided to enjoy few hours outside on the CRCSS thermal field. The longest flight was about 30 minutes with quite light lift towards the late afternoon. Never the less the day couldn't of been more perfect for this time of year in Calgary.

The Swap Meet occurred without a glitch. It was nice to see as many club members as we had come out and enjoy themselves for couple of hours. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate so I'm assuming that some of the members did not make it due to the cold wind and falling snow.

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) is scheduled for Saturday March 19th at the Calgary Area Outdoor Council location. Hope to see you all there.

It’s Superbowl weekend as I write this note. In the past few weeks I’ve been attempting to update the website and include most current “Upcoming Events” information for 2005. In addition, I’ve been going through some of the photos and making them available on the webpage. Have a look in the Photo Gallery.
There are additional pictures at the following link from past years as well as the F3J FAI 2004 World Championships in Red Deer – have a look:

Although not related to soaring, some of the club members have been participating in indoor flying during our - 15 to -30 Celsius weather. Here are some photos of the facility and indoor flyers.
